Final defence
The outcome of the doctoral programme is the completion of a research thesis, which demonstrates that the doctoral candidate has acquired the skills, knowledge, and abilities required by the programme and can act as an independent researcher.
At the end of the third year, if the student fulfils the admission requirements or at the end of the extension period, he or she will be admitted to the final examination stage.
The thesis will undergo a preliminary assessment by two experts from outside the PhD board, selected among scholars with recognised scientific experience. If the assessment is deemed satisfactory, the doctoral student will be admitted to the discussion, which will occur in the presence of a commission appointed by the board. Following the discussion, the commission will produce a final evaluation. The candidate will be awarded the PhD title if this evaluation is positive.
