International dimension
The teaching staff includes experts from foreign universities and research institutions, such as
- Gabriele Clemens, Universität des Saarlandes
- Gabriella Giannachi, University of Exeter
- Xavier Tabet, Université Paris 8
- Joanna Norman, Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Please refer to the faculty page or relevant institution profiles for more information.
The PhD participates in the UNITA network, which unites several European universities. One of the projects supported by UNITA is the CHORAL programme, which provides international doctoral scholarships on cultural heritage.
Stay Abroad
Studying and conducting research abroad is compulsory for students with PNRR grants and strongly encouraged for all PhD students. Research and training must be agreed upon with the tutors and should support personal development.
There is an increase in the grant for the duration of the stay abroad, for a maximum of six months. For more information on financial resources, please refer to Funding.
Co-tutorship with foreign universities is possible and positively evaluated. International students may also request co tutorship within the doctorate program. At present, many doctoral students in the XXXIX cycle operate under a co-tutorship arrangement, both as outgoing and incoming students.

Collaboration with companies and non-academic organisations is essential to all doctoral curricula.
This collaboration aims to provide training activities during the doctoral course, such as internships and possible follow-ups after the conclusion of the studies.
At present, ongoing collaborations exist with the following organisations:
